Description
Our flake soil is generated from oak pellets and high-quality whole wheat flour, fermented for two months, then dried for one more. We use this soil for our non-stag beetles. This flake soil is more broken down and generally preferred by many types of rhino beetles and flower beetles over less broken down flake soils.
To rehydrate, add approximately one part water to two parts dried flake soil by volume, mix well, and let sit for five minutes to fully absorb. Due to slight variations in remaining moisture during the drying process from batch to batch, use less water initially and adjust from there, adding more water if too dry, or adding more dried flake if too wet. Your substrate should hold its shape when squeezed without dripping any water. For best results when replacing a larva’s flake soil, mix in a small amount of the old flake soil to help beneficial bacteria establish in the new flake soil to reduce disruption to the larva’s growth.
Each bag contains 25oz of dry flake soil by weight.
