Description
Pinguicula ‘Pirouette’ is a hybrid cross between P. agnata and P. (moranensis x ehlersiae). Plants in the genus Pinguicula are also known as butterworts. These carnivorous plants are small, with shallow roots, sticky leaves, and stunning flowers! In the winter, they will go into a state of dormancy where they will lose their sticky leaves and turn into a succulent. During their dormancy period, allow them to dry out for several days between waterings.
The three most important aspects of carnivorous plant care are light, soil, and water. These butterworts are tropical plants that tend to be found in shallow volcanic soils. They have adapted to low-nutrient, boggy environments, and most regular potting soil will kill them. We keep ours in an equal ratio of unfertilized peat, unfertilized perlite, sand, and lava rock.
Carnivorous plants should be kept in a shallow tray of reverse osmosis, distilled, or rainwater when not in their winter dormancy period (allow them to dry out between waterings during the winter). Water that is too high in dissolved solids will eventually kill them as salts build up in the soil and burn the roots.
Due to their shallow roots and delicate leaves, all plants will be shipped bare root.
