Description

Captive born and bred larvae of the Bumble Flower Beetle, Euphoria inda. Unsexed. Larvae have 3 distinct larval phases, or instars, separated by molts where their head capsule will noticeably enlarge. L1 (larval phase 1) lasts roughly 1 week after hatching; L2 lasts about 1.5 weeks, and L3 typically lasts 2-3 months before pupation. Larvae feed on decayed hardwood and plant matter, we recommend a mixture of flake soil and organic compost or decayed hardwood leaves. Larvae are voracious eaters, and may consume up to 10-15 oz of decayed material each before pupating. Individual larvae are shipped in deli cups of flake soil which should last as their food source for 2-3 weeks. Orders of larvae in larger quantities will be shipped together in larger containers with a proportional amount of flake soil.

Bumble flower beetles are small, fuzzy, mottled brown beetles that can be found buzzing around flowers during the day in summer months. This US native species is found across most states, most commonly along the Eastern seaboard and midwest. The adult beetles are shy and prefer to stay with legs tucked in when picked up, but are fast crawlers, very adept flyers, and explorative once they feel comfortable and safe. Adults are attracted to sunlight and windows when indoors and can readily fly away. They do not bite or sting and are completely harmless, and are not considered an agricultural pest.
